Introduction to the World Farmers Association (Global Farmers Organization)

The World Farmers Association (WPA) was initiated by Farmers organizations from 27 countries and regions, including Pakistan, Iran, Nepal, Indonesia, East Timor, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, South Korea, Syria, Togo, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Cyprus, Poland, Russia, Greece, Bulgaria, Palestine, and China, as well as related international Farmers organizations. The Global Farmers Organization (GPO) is an international professional body registered in Hong Kong and is a key component of the World Farmers Association.

The WPA (GPO) is a non-governmental, non-political international organization wholeheartedly dedicated to serving farmers. It aims to strengthen cooperation among member countries' Farmers organizations, helping members enhance their management capabilities for agricultural, forestry, livestock, and fishery production across their lands, mountains, grasslands, lakes, rivers, and oceans. Through increased technical exchanges, the WPA promotes the sharing of agricultural product production, processing, logistics, and sales information among members, facilitates mutual assistance and collaboration, and smoothens agricultural product circulation channels between countries, ultimately boosting farmers' incomes. By creating job opportunities and increasing incomes, the organization strives to help low-income farmers in underdeveloped countries and regions, as well as displaced urban poor, escape poverty and achieve prosperity, progressing from basic needs (“adequate food and clothing, safe housing”) toward a moderately prosperous society and ultimately achieving common prosperity. The WPA and its members are working hand in hand toward building a community with a shared future for mankind.

The WPA (GPO) conducts research on agricultural science and technology, improves agricultural education practices, disseminates public knowledge of agricultural product practices, protects natural resources, and enhances agricultural production methods, all while respecting, adapting to, and protecting nature. The organization seeks to improve the processing, sales, and distribution of grain and agricultural products, adopting appropriate national and international agricultural credit policies and international policies on agricultural commodity arrangements, while providing necessary technical assistance to its member organizations upon request.

In response to repeated calls from international friendly organizations and individuals, it was decided that the WPA (GPO) global headquarters should be based in a country that offers a friendly environment, political stability, economic development, cultural inclusiveness, and social harmony. After multiple consultations, it was agreed that the global headquarters would be established in China. Additionally, regional offices are planned for Latin America, Africa, and Asia, as well as sub-regional offices in the Middle East and the Greater China Region.

The China Agriculture Cooperation Association (CACA) is the only designated administrative body of the WPA (GPO) in the Greater China Region. On December 15-16, 2022, CACA hosted the first international conference of the WPA (GPO) in Zhejiang, China. The conference was co-initiated by 27 countries and regions, with representatives participating in person or via online video. During the event, the first Executive Committee and Youth Committee were elected.

With the theme “Farmers are the foundation of society, and a strong foundation ensures world stability,” the conference emphasized that farmers are the cornerstone of humanity and that food security is key to global peace. It provided an open platform for solidarity, cooperation, and peace among the world's farmers, advocating for the creation of a global community of shared future for farmers, laying a practical foundation for building a community with a shared future for mankind.

As the initiating country and host of this conference, China emphasized the internationalization and openness of the event, focusing on national equality and aiming to elevate international agricultural cooperation to new levels. The conference adhered to principles of “mutual respect, seeking common ground while reserving differences, learning from one another, and achieving win-win cooperation,” while upholding the guiding principle of “respecting nature, adapting to nature, and protecting nature.” The event revolved around the agricultural technical needs of member countries and international agricultural development trends, expanding exchange and cooperation among member nations by showcasing new technologies and advocating new concepts. During the meeting, the “World Farmers Cooperation Initiative” was released.

The conference also featured the World Farmers Forum, where participants discussed the theme “Integration of the Global Digital Economy and Modern Agriculture.” Distinguished guests from various countries delivered keynote speeches from their respective national agricultural perspectives, expressing great confidence and anticipation for the future development of the WPA (GPO). They believed that the WPA (GPO) will undoubtedly benefit farmers worldwide and offer new development opportunities for humanity.
